For those of you wondering about N&J Black - This IS N&J Black! They changed the name/packaging a short while back, but it's exactly the same product.

As far as taste, it is very similar to General Onyx imo. Very close in flavor, and I'd say one is as good as the other. I like to have both around. Sometimes I'm in the mood for one over the other.

It was started in Sept of 2009 and if you click on the "more about Nick & Johnny" link up above they actually describe the Black and show a picture of the actual tin. Right now its only available in Norway. Your post was made in Nov of 2010 so it had already been out for well over a year at that point in time.

My favorite loose was the original Nick and Johnny. The plain pouches were good but too strong on the drip. THIS is what I was looking for and definitely tastes like Nick and Johnny. Strong, definitely has a nice, deep flavor and a goodly hit of nicotine. If you like strong, this may be your new snus.

I really liked Nick and Johnny Black. This version is ok and in fact I'm about to buy more but I don't think it tastes the same and it just seems different.

I really wish they'd bring back the black version. Still you can't really go wrong with this.

@carotevi there never was a Nick & Johnny Black so you didn't miss anything.Also I think your taste buds are off this tastes exactly like the original to me.Only real difference I see is the nic-hit.This has 11mg nicotine the original had 12mg.I personally prefer this to the original as anything 12mg or more makes my ears pop.This just makes them ring slightly.Plus because this is a white so it takes about 10-15 minutes to start juicing.
To the next person.Yes it is great snus to put under your lip.If you liked Nick & Johnny you will like this too.I personally prefer this reasons given above.

I never did try Nick & Johnny black but i am a big fan of regular nick & johnny strong. not normally a fan of white portions. but when this came out i had to try a can. it comes in that star fan can like SM is doing with white portions now.

i am not a good one to describe a taste in detail. but i would say these are one third General Onyx, one third General Sterk and one third Nick & Johnny with just a dash of Grovsnus Black.

They are good but i think the Nick & Johnny name leads one to expect Nick & Johnny and i don't get that so much.

If you are a fan of SM strong portion snus then it's worth a try. Overall i think they are pretty good and if i liked white portions i would buy a roll. I will buy a few cans here and there anyway. I use almost all sterks and for it's 11mg nic the hit is quick and clear.

in the big snus world i can see these catching on but not replacing regular N&J.
