Kaunis Koru The Kalevala Finnish jewelry collection includes a few items designed by modern artists. However, most of the modern designs go by the brand name Kaunis Koru. These pieces also represent Finnish jewelry design at its very best and are a perfect complement to the traditional range. Where do the models come from? Most of the Kalevala Finnish jewelry models are date from the Viking Era more than a thousand years ago, but some of the items in the broad collection are almost twice that age. And again, the models for some of the pieces stretch back only to the 19th century. All items are replicas, variations or combinations of originals and are made in collaboration with archaeologists. Archaeologically, the items in the Kalevala jewelry collection can be classified into the periods familiar from prehistoric research: The Roman Iron Age 0-400 AD. The Great Migration 400-600 AD The Merovingian Age 600-800 AD The Viking Era 800-1025 AD The Crusades 1025-1300 AD During the Roman Iron Age, the Great Migration and the Merovingian Age jewelry was made of bronze, iron, silver and gold. The material of most of the Vikings finds is bronze, whereas the jewelry made at the time of the Crusades was also wrought out from silver. One of the latest Kalevala jewelry collections is called Luistari after one of Finland's most important archaeological excavations. The site was discovered in 1969 and over 10 000 treasures have been found since. Kalevala Koru - buy a perfect gift from Finland |
